Beaches in Javea

Javea has a selection of beaches, the main one being the popular Arenal, with its shallow and safe waters - perfect for children. The Arenal is a great place to spend a day out as it is backed by a wide range of bars and restaurants and beach shops. The newly laid promenade is perfect for a gentle stroll after a day lazing on the beach before dining in one of the many international restaurants that line the seafront. At the other end of Javea lies the fishing port, home to many expensive yachts sitting comfortably alongside fishing boats that trawl out to sea to catch fresh fish later sold in the port market and the restaurants of Javea. Alongside the port is a pebbly beach which enjoys views of the port and to the Arenal on the other side of the bay. There are some delightful restaurants at this end of Javea. Living in Javea means you will have time to explore the less well-known rocky coves and beaches of the Javea coastline. The Montgó Massif Mountain

The massive Montgó mountain provides a dramatic back-drop to the town of Javea and rises to a height of 753m (2470ft) and, from the top, on a clear day, Ibiza can easily be seen. It can be seen from numerous towns in the regions, including Javea, Denia, Pedreguer, Jesus Pobre, Gata de Gorgos and even further afield. There is evidence that the Montgo was occupied by cave dwellers as far back as 30000 years ago as remains of pottery, bones, coins and cave paintings have been found in the area. The Montgo has been designated both a natural park and an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers cyclist, walkers, mountain bikers and hikers both easy and challenging routes to climb. The local people of Javea refer to the Montgo as the ‘Elephant mountain’ because, from the Javea side, it resembles an Elephant’s head and trunk – a cave is the elephant’s eye. The Montgo is responsible for providing Javea with its micro climate, thus providing it with temperate weather conditions throughout the year. Nudging against the Eastern side of the Montgo is La Plana, which can be reached by hiking from the port or the old town of Javea, or by road. La Plana offers amazing panoramic views of Javea bay and the valley and, once up there, you can visit the eleven Molins which were used to grind wheat and cereals for the local people and date back to the 16th century. Also on the La Plana is the Monasterio Nuestra de los Angels and the Cap de San Antonio lighthouse.

Watersports in Javea

Many watersports enthusiasts choose to live in Javea for its wide selection of aqua activities. Sailing, kayaking, stand up paddling, surfing, windsurfing, snorkelling, and of course just swimming in the warm, calm waters of the Mediterranean. Dining In Javea

Eating al fresco is another reason to enjoy life in Javea. There are a numerous selection of restaurants offering traditional Spanish and international cuisine and suitable for all budgets. You can choose to eat in one of the many restaurants along the Arenal, or visit the old town of Javea, for a more traditional taste of Spain. During the summer, living in Javea means a taste of real outdoor Spanish life. One of the most relaxing places to enjoy tapas and drinks are the beach bars (chiringuitos) along the road from the Arenal to the Port. Fiestas

Not to be missed are the many Spanish fiestas that take place in Javea throughout the year. The biggest Javea fiesta is when the town celebrates its patron saint, San Juan, during the summer solstice, on 21 June, when fires are lit, fireworks are let off and there is music and dancing till the small hours. Worth noting is the Javea International Festival that takes place every year at the end of June. This event celebrates the mix of international cultures that have chosen to make their life in Javea. Transport in Spain is unfamiliar territory for many expats – but it needn’t be as complicated as it seems. Hot Property has compiled a guide for new residents about how to get to and from the town, as well as how to find your way around.

Getting To Javea From The Airport

Alicante and Valencia are the most popular airports to service Jávea. Below are some of the more convenient options to get there once you land:

Buses

From Alicante – Although there is no direct bus between Jávea and Alicante airport, ALSA (Spanish bus company) runs a service between Alicante and Benidorm, with the option to transfer to Jávea. This service departs from floor 2, just outside Departures, costing roughly €16 per person. During the day, buses run on the hour until the afternoons when they run less often. Buses do not run at all from 20.15 until 07.45, and the journey takes between 3-4 hours. See www.alsa.es/en for more information. From Valencia – ALSA runs an infrequent service to Jávea, once in the morning and once in the evening, during the week. During the weekends, the service runs once on Saturdays and twice on Sundays. Other Options The other options to get from the airport to Javea are:

• Taxis - These costa approx. 120€ one way
• Transfers - Beniconnect, alicante Taxi Transfers
• Car Rentals - Javea Cars And SolMar are good local options but other options available from the airport.

Driving Directions

If you would like to drive yourself to Javea from the airports the AP-7 motorway will be the route to take. From the exit this is then sign-posted to lead you into the town. It is roughly a 60 -90 minute journey includes toll roads. Property in Javea has not been as popular as it is now since before the recession.
